The Starlate appears to be annulled north of Sacramento for the duration. The BNSF Inside Gateway does not have the capacity and is too slow to make a detour feasible. The railfans are accusing Amtrak of giving up too easily, and the rare mileage guys are very disappointed, but seems to me to be it is a sensible decision for Amtrak. The only other alternative is a long bus bridge that is not any kind of really comparable service (a Greyhound ticket is cheaper).
