It has been 13 years since the restoration of the Trout Lake trestle happened. The US Forest Service sponsored the project since the trestle is on USFS land, but the majority of the funding came through San Miguel County. Both ends of the trestle are a few feet from the adjoining county road that loops around the trestle and the location where Rich's picture was taken. Aside from the structural work, clearing of brush and a number of trees adjacent to the trestle took place to give the structure breathing room. All that growth holds snow in the winter and the retained moisture accelerates decay of the wooden trestle. I was marginally involved with this project.
