Hi,
There were two military diesels tested in Durango. They were about equal to a C18?
The first was N4700 from Davenport (according to the
Second Diesel Spotter's Guide 1978 edition). This was from a group of 18 units built to US Arrny blueprints. 16 (1216-236) were standard gauge locomotives. N4000 was adjustable from 56.5" to 66". N4700 was adjustable from from 56.5"-36".
There was a construction article in Railroad Model Craftsman(?) in the early 1970s. It started from an Athearn SW1200 in HO.
The second was a US Army 3000 (GE) which later became WP&Y 81 (IIRC). Plans are available for WP&Y 81. I've not seen them.
I do not know of any narrow gauge Alcos used on the D&RGW.
The non-steamer owned by the D&RGW is ex-SV101/D&RGW 50 (Davenport) used in the 1960s in Durango (I think it was 1963-1967).
The only other non-steam locomotive used was the contractor's loco (20 ton?) B used in the relocation of the mainline around Arboles for Lake Navajo.
