Narrow Gauge Road extended beyond the standard gauge depot to the site of the Mt. Whitney depot on the narrow gauge. Mt. Whitney was originally named "Lone Pine" by the Carson & Colorado following its practice of naming the depots for the town on the west side of the valley it was intended to serve.
