An early US Army Air Force failed prototype of the later semi-successful NYC "Black Beetle" M-497 jet powered rail car. The propellers on this Army Air Force car hit the ballast and spun the it around. Said the engineer at the time: Me and the fireman were look'n for the stoker controls and the water gage. We didn't notice the pile o' ballast sneaking up on us."
It would have been really really bad if it had been a Navy test flight. The flag man would have refused to carry those torpedoes a 1/4 mile down the track.
Looks like it was raining that day.
