The last time I recall paying $0.999/gallon for gas was 1999. Betcha that factors into your peak ridership figures - even if it's only a psychological factor.

Last year, gas dipped into the $1.60 range and that generated at least some commentary during our road trips at the time.

Factor into the equation stagnant wage growth over the past 15 years along with inflation and a "shrinking middle class" and you have the makings of a dissertation on the economics of turning a tourist profit in the boonies.
