In the C&S system of classification, a 2-6-2 would be a "E3" for a locomotive with single axle leading and trailing trucks, and 3 driver axles. As the first (and only) locomotives in this wheel arrangement, it would the letter "A" appended to the rear.
So it would have been an -
E-3A
The C&S numbering system set aside numbers 1-29 for 2-6-0's, but only used numbers 1 - 13 (#1 was the 2-6-6T Mason Bogie. So a logical number might have been "14"
