The tenders were indeed swapped early on at the CRRM. The 346
was hot and nobody else wanted to jockey the move so I did it. No
brakes was the issue. 346 tender leaked like a sieve despite much
of the bottom patched with new plate or welding that sort of blew
the repairs budget that year.
Bob mentions not having the courage (or tact) to tell the modelers
who spent hours measuring in detail the 346 & with the swapped
tender in one of his books. That may have been for the first brass
model of the 346 in the early 60's?
