There were 3 eastbound movements out of Alamosa, and likewise, 3 trains to Farmington in June, 1968:

1. 478 and 476 made the infamous "mad dash" to Durango on May 28. 478 took those cars to Farmington on June 3, and came back with 24 empties.

2. 483 and 493 went west from ALA on June 4 with 44 cars, 498 went east from Durango with the 24 empties that 478 brought back from Farmington the day before.
On June 5, the locomotives swapped trains and returned to their original terminals. 478 ran light to Gato to help 498 across Florida Mesa back toward Durango.
On June 6 478 went south to Farmington with 43 cars and returned with five empty box cars.

3. 483 and 493 again went west from ALA on June 13 with 45 cars, 498 gather up 34 empties and 3 loads of coal and struggled east out of Durango.
On June 14, the engines again swapped trains and returned home. And again, 478 was sent east to Gato to help 498 west over Florida Mesa. This was the last time a K28 was used in
revenue freight service east of Durango. On June 15, 498 took the train to Farmington and came back with 34 empties.

The next freights were not for another month on July 17.
