I found my pics of this wreck. They were given to me by John Templeton, who copied them from the John Norwood Collection at the CRRM. My guess is that Norwood took the pics.
The first 3 pics appear to be taken shortly after the wreck as 499 still is oozing a bit of steam.
I asked Eldon if he knew anyone in the photos. He said he didn't know this guys name, but that he was the local Special Agent. Note the dump gon on its side behind him.
You can see here that there were 3 short reefers on the head end behind the dump gon, followed by cars of pipe. The lead reefer has been destroyed and ripped open. It look like the second reefer has been turned over on It side an kicked up the hill. The gon of pipe shoved the third car to the side as the train shoved in.
