I came across this flyer from 1954 advertising the D&RGW's train to Silverton, which they cleverly named "The Silverton.":

Aside from the $3.00 round trip fare, a chance to ride in the parlor car Alamosa for 50 cents more, and it still had the San Juan interior at that time, the 463 is shown pulling the train--something that didn't register with me when I received this in the mail more than a few years back.

The name "The Silverton" remained in use for many years, through Bradshaw's ownership and into the current ownership. But in the past several years the name was quietly dropped and can be seen nowhere in the D&SNG's advertising, which now days is mostly non-print. The emphasis is on Durango and the train is now called the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge. I just did a Google search for "The Silverton" and the official D&SNG website was listed after, gasp, The Silverton Northern. And good old C. W. McCall (Bill Fries) will have to rename his song to a mind numbing string of words that will make singing "and they called her the Silverton train," to "they called her the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge train."
