Not to dampen any enthusiasm for this event but the flyer that was posted on facebook was some brainstorming from within our group and was not intended to go out to the masses. The truth is that yes we are in discussions with the D&SNG about bringing the #18 to Durango to coincide with the Narrow Gauge convention, however there is currently nothing finalized. The costs involved to do this are still being worked out but so far it will be near the $35,000 dollar range: trucking (no cranes and its not cheap to move big things), insurance, fuel, etc. There are a tremendous amount of unseen details and logistics that go along with doing anything like this that are still to be worked out.
If and when the D&S and CCRW make the final decision to pursue, or not to pursue, this project an official announcement will be made.
In the meantime as soon as the weather cooperates we will finish getting the new engine house in Independence erected and get the locomotive moved into its new home. Also, we do plan on running the #18 on July 3rd in Independence so if nothing else come see it then.
Thanks
