There was no car interchange between the islands. While OR&L was 36" gauge, the primary railroad on Hawaii (Hawaiian Consolidated) was standard gauge, and the railroads of Kauai were 30" gauge... The Kahului Railroad on Moui was 36" gauge but used a different coupler height than OR&L...
