Hi,
I always liked "Half O". O Is 1/4" to the foot (1:48) with a 1.25" gauge. "Half O" should be 1/8" to the foot gauge (1:96).
G and F both run on (I think) #1 Gauge.
Another crazy gauge is 1.5" scale with two gauges (7.5" and 7.25" gauges).
1.5"scale n3 should be 4.5" gauge but uses 4.75" gauge.
However is you use 1.6" scale for both 7.5" gauge and 7.5" scale n3 you come close to 56.5 = 4.71 feet gauge, you come up with 7.53" gauge (within tolerance) for standard gauge and 7.53" gauge (within tolerance) for 36" gauge.
Who ever started model railroading did not care about exacting standards - bent them to suit.
