Yes.

Standard size driver boxes have what's called a bearing pad in them, that is thick enough that it is always in contact with the wheel, which is primed with oil and then the box gets pumped full frequently as well.

In some cases, cotton or wool waste strands wrapped such that they won't get caught up with the axle - this is what we have in 346, as she has small boxes with no pads.
