recent experience with a 15" engine pointed out
its importance.
The operator blew two soft plugs within about an hour. He called me and said there was something
wrong with the plugs. My answer was that the plugs were doing exactly what they were intended to do and that he was damn lucky they did. It
developed that the water glass cocks hadn't been off the boiler since the last season and the gauge cocks were not operable.
Thanks to the soft plugs the operator lived to learn a lesson about the reasons behind maintenance.
