Hi,
I have been looking for the ACL purple box cars. The ACL was around from 1900-1963?).
I have seen one but could not find it on the web.
I asked Larry Goolsby of the ACL-SAL-SCL historical group about it.

Doug, thanks for contacting us. ACL did not have a solid purple boxcar; I assume what the writer had in mind was ACL's aluminum and purple express refrigerator cars (built 1947), which certainly had a lot of purple on them but also wide aluminum bands - a scheme similar to ACL diesels and heavyweight passenger cars of the period. I couldn't put my hands on a prototype photo but here's an accurate model photo -
ACL purple box cars
So for all I know, the D&S purple boxcar could in fact be the first all-purple boxcar.
Hope this helps -
Larry

So, if you want to, paint two silver/grey stripes down the sides, use the D&S lettering (also Durham and Southern - a past of SCL), and add Railway Express Agency lettering, you would have a NG version of a SG railroad's boxcar.
FWIW.
