Not NG, but . . . steam trains out West

Can anyone report on the Grand Canyon Railway? Is it a trip worth taking (above and beyond the fact that ANY steam trip is worth taking)?
I may be out that way in late September. Any advice?
NG question: How long does it take to drive from the Grand Canyon to Chama, New Mexico?
