Which doesn't mean that the two didn't overlap! Back in the "On the Waterfront" era there was actually a pretty substantial Norwegian-American community in the waterfront section of South Brooklyn, from Red Hook and Gowanus down to Sunset Park and Bay Ridge, many of whom were employed as seamen and longshoremen. The area was sometimes referred to as the "Scandinavian Colony" of Brooklyn.
