In 1985 Ross Rowland did tests for the project using his 4-8-4 C&O 614 between Huntington and Hington, WV for 30 days, in January. We got to see it
and it was pretty cool to see 30+ cars of loaded coal eastbound, and up to 90 empty cars the next day westbound. There were all sorts of sensors on the engine
and wiring to a test car behind the engine, which had equipment and video monitors. This was some of the best US material I ever shot, in that it was a real C&O engine
on former C&O rails, and somewhat regular service. Snow, Cold, and steam----what could be better. The project never got off the planning stages cause of one major thing----The
oil crisis eased up and oil prices went down. It was cool to watch 614, which was numbered 614T actually for this project. Here is a short preview of what we thought. This was one of my first
videos(And first U.S, one). Shot on old VHS before I got into doing this full-time a year later.
