How fast will a Goose go? In 2001 we took Goose 2 to Durango. 2 had problems resolved from the 2000 visit to the D&S. (cooling system, driveshaft leather center bearing) Coming in from Hermosa, our D&S pilot said this is the best track on the RR, go ahead on open it up. We did. 2 ran great, faster we had ever gone before. Crewman in the back box screamed on the radio, "slow this %#@!* down we're bouncing all over the place." Later we were told by a CRRM volunteer that he had paced us from the hiway using his digital speedometer and clocked us at 32 mph. Seemed smooth enough from the cab though.
The AA Ford rear ends on the Geese all had 6:08+ gearing.
