To pin down the date of a rebuild, you might find a reference at the Colorado RR Museum. They did have an AFE list which showed completion dates, when I got some of the prints. Just be aware that there are drawings for things that were proposed but never built.

If I was building the engine house, I would use the smaller engine house shown in the before version of of the 1924 drawing. A 175 foot building would take up a lot of room. Of course, some selective compression needs to be used. The Montrose yard was over 3 miles (330 ft in O scale) long, from the Oil Transfer on the north end to the Wye/Junction to the South, unless you are modeling in virtual scale.
