FWIW, I was involved in refurbishing a 96 year old timber body coach some years ago - [www.comrails.com]. The painters came from a truck/car painting background, against my best advice they spray painted the coach, all the sides are narrow tongue & groove boards, it didn't take long for the paint to split along all the board edges with body movement and look crap, my argument was that it should have been brush painted, no money left for a repaint, I haven't seen it for a few years now so don't know its current condition.
