Sam, one of the great ironies of all was that the D&RGW spent potfuls of big money on everything but paint in their strategy to show high costs for maintaining the "antiquated" NG and it's equipment.
One of the real benefits to post-D&RGW operations on the C&TS and museums across the country was that brake cylinders, couplers, brake shoes and other items were like-new, sometimes having never been on the line again after shopping at Alamosa.
