The second air pump was re-added to 41 in the late 90's, early 2000's, can't remember exactly, due to an "after hours blowdown incident".
The fitting on the hose that hooks up to the collection tank that we used to blowdown into broke, it was whipping around , tore up the jacketing, running board, front corner of the cab, took the fireman, ( Karl Verhoff ?) awhile to dodge the hose and get the blowdown shut .
I came in the next morning and saw the damage, stood there for awhile with my mouth open, head shaking, eyes rolling, ( quite a COMMON expression for me while working there ).
While repairing the damage to the jacket, I noticed the studs for the front air pump were still in place....I made new hangers for it, and installed a pump we had hanging on the repair rack....
Really came in handy when the lunkheaded operators would forget to turn the lubricator back on and the pump they were using would overheat and seize up...
AH...Such Fond-Fond memories at knotz......!
