What is the Narrow Gauge Convention

I've been hearing about the convention for years, but never been to one, or gotten a schedule of events, or an invitation. Which sorta amazes me since I seem to be on everyone's mailing list based on the amount of junk I get. From bits and pieces I've heard I can guess what a lot of it is. But can someone who really knows give a pitch for the convention. The impression I've gotten is that it is mostly oriented toward modelers. But maybe I'm dead wrong on that. What is there for the average narrow gauge foamer, photographer, and railfan?
