According to the timetables, they were good for hauling about another 10 tons (85 vs 75) from Chama to Cumbres. There are plenty of places with lighter traffic and rail, as well as switching duties, where this wouldn't matter. The Rio Grande never really bought switchers after 1900, and plenty of small consolidations did the work.
