This drawing was shared with me by the late John Hammond many years ago. Obviously someone was designing a proposed paint scheme, but the underlying drawing and dimensions appear.
The roots-blown Caterpillar D-397 engine, originally used here and on SP #1, was advertised by Cat as 500 hp. Both the diesel engine suppliers and locomotive builders were (and sometimes still) prone to exaggerate the horsepower rating. The D-397 was capable of 500 hp, but not continuously. So while it may have been capable of 500 hp at low altitudes in switching service, in road service GE rated them as 450 bhp and 400 hp input to the traction generator. In this case, I think the 390 hp referred to the original traction hp input for a road unit, the missing 10 hp compared to the SP #1 (450/400 hp) being used for the traction motor blowers and maybe some extra for the radiator fan.
