Actually, John -
This thread was originally intended to bring attention to the use of a somewhat derogatory term on the cover of a brochure presumably intended to increase participation in The Friends' Docent Program in support of the C&TS.
I'm really not sure what "
DOCENTS OUR GUIDES FROM FANS TO FOAMERS" is intended to convey, however. Does it mean the (decent) docents will guide (rail)fans through the long and convoluted pathway that leads to true foamerism, or that docents represent the entire spectrum from (decent) fans to (radical) foamers?

p.s. IIRC, there are many baseball fans who are at least as weird as those railfans whom we refer to as "foamers". Remember the more extreme Red Sox fans of eight or nine years ago, both in reality and as portrayed in the film
'Fever Pitch'? Roosso had a neighbor (Bosco's first owner) who became seriously infected with Red Sox Disease while working for a time in a Boston hospital, and Roosso's daughter Jackelopette also acquired a mild case of RSD during a summer internship in Boston.
