While factory records are incomplete, there has long been the report repeated among historians that during WWI there were six 15 ton Climax Class A's built in 2 foot gauge for a Midwestern road contractor, perhaps in Oklahoma. As usual with contracting equipment, these locomotives were dispersed after contract completion. In the associated file there is currently a photograph of a two foot Class A working a highway contract in the mid-west in 1917. There is also an advertisement for sale of contractor's equipment by a supplier in Chicago that includes a two foot gauge Climax in 1918.
