Reference the RGS maps in map pocket of SILVER SAN JUAN: These were done for me by Ernie Robart. I had a full set of mile-by-mile maps from the RGS that were found by late Jack Thode in a huge pile of RGS material that was being sent to the dump by the D&RGW. Jack called me and I borrowed a pick-up truck, went to downtown Denver and Jack (and others) helped me load the materials without Rio Grande executives' knowledge. I enlisted Ernie's help in transferring all the detailed maps onto the huge sheet that was reproduced in the book. I might add that I had to chain Ernie's leg to the drafting table, feed him at my house for a week and purchase a small fortune in press-type lettering. It is the most accurate RGS map to have been done. I believe that Sundance used parts of it (with permission) in their series. Ernie Robart's talent still shines today some 45 years later!
