Very good question Chuck.

You can use a watch and obtain time between mileposts if the road has them & then either consult a chart ( the're around) or do the simple math.

Relying on a guess is what brings up some of these wild claims that frequently become part of railroad legends.

I've tried to be conservative when relating my experiences and that includes speeds attained.
