The Denver Post article has photos taken at various locations. It also showed a flanger train that ran ahead of the San Juan from Alamosa to Chama--it had an unidentifiable (in the photo) K-37 as road engine with 497 as helper. The article stated that extra cars were carried for what was expected to be a large crowd, but that they didn't materialize, and that only 16 paying passengers rode the westbound to Durango after it departed Gato and only 25 passengers boarded the last eastbound at Durango.
The article repeatedly referred to the train as the "San Juan Express," which was never an official name for the 1937 and later version of the train. It was always the "San Juan."
