Ron; Your post about Alpine is very interesting.
My friends have a summer home there and I have toured the town several times in the last 35 or so years.
What is suprising is that back in the late 80's
those towns had a water system and electric lights
while in the 1920'2, in a lot of our small towns here on the prairie, we got our water out of the well by the back door, had a privy out back and if we had electricity it came on at dark and went off at 10 PM when they hit the kill switch on the big one lunger gas engine and it coasted to a stop.
It sure is a big help to have hills for your water to run down.
