Les Jarett used to come out in the early 1990s filming the Friends work session and he did a video of an old railroad head showing how you could use a 'doo-hickey' (a LONG 4X4 board to lift the axle in a journal box to change out the brasses when you are out on the line. Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention.
One thing for sure if that 2X4 board has a Snap-On part number it will be EXPENSIVE!
