My view.
Drones. Some of you seem to be content with "The Old days" and don't want anything to change....ever. Technology marches on. Drones provide an opportunity to get aerial shots without having to rent a helicopter. And honestly, they are much easier to ignore then a helicopter.
Freeloaders. Well, if you going to hold an even along a 64 mile long railroad, with lots of access by public roads, people are going to take pictures of it. Paid riders or not. If you don't like this, fund the construction of a huge dome, or perhaps buy all the land around the railroad and put up huge fences to keep people out from "intruding on your private charter". But remember in the end, the railroad is owned by the states of Colorado and New Mexico, and there for it belongs to the people of those states. I'm a Colorado Taxpayer, so I should be able to take a picture of the train, no matter what train is actually running, when ever I happen to be in the area. Don't like it, see dome idea.
The Internet. This seems to be an indirect complaint. People posting Photo's before the Charter comes into town and you can go back to your hotel, or head home. Well, welcome to the march of Technology in the 21st century. I can take a picture with my phone at any time, and as long as I have cell service, have it posted to facebook within a few minutes. There is nothing you can do about it, and honestly, complaining that people, who took their own time to get out there, and took a picture, and posted the picture before you had a chance to post yours, is a pretty silly and petty thing.
In closing, what are these charters about anyway? Are they for a select group of people to enjoy? Or are they for everyone? Do we restore this equipment for only a privileged few, or for all to enjoy? some of us have jobs, and can't justify taking time off to go ride the train on a special charter. We enjoy that charter through the photo's it provides. And in my opinion, the more pictures, the better, the more angles, the better.
Of course people will still have to buy tickets to support these kinds of events, but just because not everyone can afford that ticket, does not mean that they cannot enjoy it passing them on the side of a public road. And while they are at it, may as well snap a few pictures.
