The doghouse on 491 was completely restored. It was bordering on collapse. The metal roof, brackets, grabs and the steam heating piping were reused. Al Blount fabricated and upholstered the seat. Yes, it has an upholstered seat, steam heat, lighting, sliding side windows, wind wings and the correct paint and stenciling. Doc John Conover and crew did a great job on this doghouse.
Before having a coat of black paint applied, a remark was made that this thing should be on a coffee table. The restoration was done using original D&RGW plans.
Mike Spera helped me up into the doghouse for some switching moves last week. This doghouse borders on being plush.
Awhile back on the NGDF we had some people complain we were destroying and
not restoring equipment at the CRRM. They need to look at this year long project.
