There was an abortive attempt to superheat the KRR #12 at the Georgetown Loop. Some Tross/Porta theorists convinced the CHS that a new generation superheater would make the locomotive "better". The project got as far as new tube sheets installed. A mechanical management change at the Loop scrapped that plan before completion and had the original tube pattern installed instead. I ran some fundamental calcs on the "better" superheater. Not enough info available to calculate the superheat temperature, but there would only have been about half as much steam generated to superheat. You never get something for nothing.
