Train Movement on Silverton Northern

March 14, 2003 01:07PM
I have been going over the Rainbow Route and have some questions on train movement on the Silverton Northern around 1900 - 1925.
I saw that there were 3 trains each way between Silverton and Eureka. Were the trains turned? If so was it done on the loop south of Eureka? From the timetable it looks like there would not be enough time to turn the engine around.
How were freight cars spotted at the Silver Lake mill and other spurs. It does not look like there was a way for the engine to do a "run around" near that spur. Did they use another up the line
and/or the loop?
Were their regularly scheduled freights? So far I have only found the passenger schedule.
Were freight cars exchanged on one of the D&RG tracks for shipments to and from Durango and beyond?
Thank you all in advance for this and other info in this group!
I'm hoping to try to model the Silverton Northern. I'm only 1 or 2 lottery tickets away from being able to do what I would like.
