In 2009 I rode the EBT and had a long chat with the Conductor about the restoration of the line between Colgate Grove and Mt. Union. According to him, the line would be dual-gauged to Orbisonia where a new lumber loading facility would be constructed. Dual gauging would, of course, negate NG/SG trans-loading in Mt Union and make operations fairly simple.
Some of the profits from this venture were to be used to restore the line to Robertsdale. In fact, brush clearing was already in-progress by volunteers towards Robertsdale. Got to ride a motorcar about a mile and half south of Orbinsonia on the cleared ROW and it's amazing what a couple of guys with chain saws can accomplish on the weekends.
I believe that Conductor fully believed what he was telling me. But, we know how things turned out instead...
I'd sure like to see the Argentine Central rebuilt. Not only to ride and photograph it, but seeing 2 NG operations connecting in Silver Plume would be pretty sweet. Seems like the proximity to Denver could make this a profitable enterprise, especially if the two railroads were operated together.
Time will tell...
