My first visit to the C&TS was in 1970. I got to Chama in time for the first return trip of the 483 after it delivered the first load of equipment from Antonito. There was a caterpillar infestation and I was drafted to help hand sand the track in front of the train.
Not counting that my first official train tide on the narrow gauge was from Durango to Silverton in 1952 or 1953. I am not sure which because my dad's label on the slide is not clear as to the date.
