Similarly, the WW&F went through several reorganizations and name changes over the years, and in its final form was the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington
Railway Co. The name of the modern incarnation is therefore the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington
Railway Museum.
In a related phenomenon, there are also a number of older eastern US railroads that are officially "
rail roads" (two words). Two prominent examples are the Strasburg Rail Road and the Long Island Rail Road, both of which operate under charters granted all the way back in 1832 and 1834, respectively, before railroad was a compound word.
