I went over to Altamont Press to see the posts there by two senior officers at BNSF. Both Rolland Bredenburg (well known to rail fans) and Zac Anderson, both VP's at BNSF, responded to Steve's post about what happened with Zazzle. Whatever the legal merits of corporate efforts to protect and license their trademarks, both Roll and Zac showed an interest in explaining BNSF's position to railfans and providing a reasonable and inexpensive way to resolve any issues. We tend to look at corporations as faceless uncaring bad buys, but corporations are just groups of people working together and are as good or bad as the collective wisdom of those people. In BNSF's case it is great to see some real people who are willing to make the effort to give the company a human face. Kudo's to BNSF. But with Roll involved I'm not surprised (we trained him well at Southern Pacific).
