Russo, etc Mr. Bar hasn't said anything new here, but stuff we all have yapped about for years as far as a San Juan train with a K-28.
We don't know all the facts and if a deal is struck or not we still may not know all the facts.
My question is would D&S part with an operational K-28(473) for 483 since they love those engines so much? On the surface it looks like a bad trade for the D&S, but consider that these engines might last longer than any of the K-28's operational or not. I think a pair of K-28's would be optimum, since you have a parts source, or you can potentially rebuild the second one some day.
If we remember our history around 1991, the D&S swapped an operational K-37 number 497, for a derelict K-36 number 482. So whats the difference if they swapped a smaller engine (K-28 473) for 483, aside from the obvious!!!
I think an operation 473 would soften the blow of (a) letting go a historical engine to the C&TS, and (b) giving up a bigger engine that can pull more than the K-28.
I have no dog in this fight, and since everyone is hitting the "What if" button this is my food for thought, and likely nothing more than that.
Considering the D&S only has one operational K-28, tells you they are not that fond of them, otherwise they would rebuild those derelicts versus rebuilding the derelicts on the C&TS. Just sayin!!!!
