Greg, see my post which has information from Earl Knoob and info taken from an official DRGW chart. I've never seen pictures of one loco handling 8 passenger coaches. Flatcars with a load weigh differently than a passenger coach with 3.5 tons worth of people, the structure, and of course that it's on a SG flat not NG which all together equals roughly 30 tons.
A caboose weighs roughly 11.35 tons. Not as much of a factor as a 30 ton passenger car. Still a factor, but not for every day operations.

The discussion morphed into this because of the K-28 being able to move less PASSENGER cars up the hill, which is the main concern. The number of lighter weight freight cars doesn't matter as much in this instance.
But, I see where you information is coming from. Yes, a K-36 could handle 4 coaches, potty car (which is the weight of a coach), rider gondola, and two premium cars.
K-28=3 coaches, concession/potty coach, rider gon, and two premium coaches on a good day according to the calculations mentioned in my previous post.
