The thread about the Jicarilla Apaches brings to mind some ancient history. The tribe was approached early on about participating in saving the railroad. At that time they were decidedly uninterested.
But times may have changed. Their casino has been empbroiled in a political squabble, and apparently isn't doing particularly well. So they well now may be interested in restoring at least part of the line.
Going back, the tribe got interested in backing movies, and financed, at least in part, with backing movies. One of them was "Five Easy Pieces" which was a modest success. Then they backed "Flap" with Anthony Quinn which was a disaster. Then somebody blew into Dulce offering them half interest in a new movie. They ran him off. Guess what the movie was? "The Godfather".
