Dual gauge idler operations

May 23, 2015 07:49PM avatar
There was an earlier question about how the dual gauge/coupler/idler/transition cars were used. Chama extra 481 east shows 10 minutes for a pickup at Antonito (picking up an idler set left there?) and then switching at La Jara that included a ATSF car that presumably must have been standard gauge. So the suggestion that the idler sets shuttled between Alamosa and Antonito seems to fit what happened here.

Thanks Jimmy, another fascinating peek into the old days.
