Engineer George Arterberry began as a fireman on 8-27-1882 and was promoted to engineer on 9-6-1884. He was definitely around in the Gunnison-Montrose-Ouray area prior to 1900.
Even if this isn't him in the picture he probably did run the 168 on more than one occasion between Gunnison and Ouray.
He retired off the Grand Junction-Montrose standard gauge train. Lew Lathrop then took a standard gauge train.
George Washington Arterberry died in 1940.
