Yes, very good point! There are essentially no native earthworm species in the glaciated portions of North America, and those earthworms that are here now probably arrived with nursery stock (fruit trees, most likely) imported from Europe in the colonial period. They are spreading rapidly and having a profound effect on soil ecology, especially in forests.
