RGS track was rated to handle K-28's in the 1920's. The fact that, AFAIK, no K-28 was ever used on RGS has more to do with their relative value than the track. D&RGW had use for all the 28's on its own lines and would have, I suspect, wanted a higher rent for a 28 than a 27. so RGS went with the K-27's.
There was even a proposal, by Baldwin ca. 1930, for a 2-10-2 for the RGS. See "Silver San Juan," p 584. Anybody got plans for that?
